The Know Daily - Friday 6 March 2026

Read in 5m 09s ∙ Listening to Harry Styles

Hello hello,

I keep reading that we should consider spring to be the New Year because it makes more sense with the natural world, in terms of growth. Basically what I’m saying is: forget all those New Year's resolutions I made in January that I didn’t keep, my New Year is actually starting now 😂 But I definitely do feel like I’ve got a spring in my step, mainly because we’re finally getting some vit D in London, but also because we’re back to publishing the newsletter at 9am again!

Anyway, here’s our weekly round-up of headlines and culture picks, plus a few recs to see you through ‘til Monday. Also, with International Women’s Day on Sunday, we’ve been thinking a lot about how we sustain our all-female newsroom (more of that below).

Happy Friday!

UPLIFTING STUFF

💓 Barbie is celebrating International Women’s Day with its first ever Barbie Dream Team of female role models across different industries.

🪸 Citizen scientists have found what is believed to be one of the largest coral colonies ever recorded on the Great Barrier Reef.

🪑 100 benches across the UK are now lit up with solar panels and offer QR codes leading to mental health support services.

This International Women’s Day, we’re getting into the spirit of things and want to share something important. We send 18 million emails a year. Yet fewer than 1% of readers support us financially. It’s easy to assume others are chipping in.

But right now, a very small group is carrying the weight of keeping The Know free, independent, and female-founded. If you value journalism with no paywalls and no barriers, consider becoming part of the 1% who make it possible. We’d love to have you on the team 💛

🛍️ Shop: Meet the product that will stop making eye makeup feel like a chore and start making it feel like a doddle. One thing we never do is gatekeep!

🗞 Read: Ok, this is a random one but I stumbled across this piece in The Guardian and I’m kind of obsessed. It sounds like break-ups are getting a sparkling rebrand, because instead of selling their engagement/wedding rings after a divorce, many women are transforming them into bold new pieces. And some are buying entirely new “divorce rings” to mark the start of a fresh chapter. Jewellers are saying we’re living in a new era of “F-you rings”, and to be fair, why not?!

🎧 Listen: The moment has finally arrived – Harry Styles’s new album has just dropped! My current fave song is American Girls, but then it has only been out for 9 hours… Anyway, don’t mind me whilst I regress into 13-year-old 1D fandom for the next three to five working days 😂

📺 Watch: I’ll hold my hands up and admit I had no idea there was a TV show about young Sherlock Holmes coming out until I saw the insanely good reviews, but now it’s very much on my agenda for the weekend. I think we can all agree that from now on anything starring Jessie Buckley is an immediate must-see and her new film The Bride is out in cinemas today – I hope she doesn’t make me quite so teary this time around!

🧑‍🍳 Cook: We’re entering wild garlic season and my absolutely favourite thing to do with it is create a pesto. So yummy in pastas or salads (I’ll whack it in anything, really!) and it's also so easy to whip up – literally just five ingredients

Which popular TV show is finally getting a movie?
A) Gilmore Girls
B) Game of Thrones
C) Line of Duty
