A new champagne bottle, dubbed “the world’s lightest" could reduce carbon emissions by 4% per bottle. Traditionally, the fizzy bev requires thick glass to avoid cracking from the pressure of the gas, but a French brand has engineered an innovative lightweight bottle. Cheers to that 🥂

NUMBER OF THE DAY

😃 24-hour happiness

There’s a formula for how to have the best day ever, according to scientists.

Tell me more…
Researchers at the University of British Columbia sought to identify the building blocks of a happy life and what distinguishes a good day from an average one. To do this, the team analysed data from the American Time Use Survey, which measures the time that people spent doing over 100 activities from 2013 and 2021. They then corresponded the activity times with whether participants reported their day as “better than typical”.

What did the report find?
They came up with a formula for a good day beyond sleeping. In layman’s terms it would pan out like this:

  • 6 hours of family time

  • 2 hours with friends

  • 1.5 hours of general socialising

  • 1 hour of eating and drinking

  • 6 hour workday

  • 15 minute commute

  • 2 hours of exercise

  • 1 hour maximum of screen time

Anything else I should know?
Obviously, it’s not always possible to hit all the scientific markers of a perfect day, but it’s a good template to live by. Plus, the researchers behind the study hope the results motivate us to make the most of our time. The findings also brings forward the idea that “balance is key”, and while we can’t go about our days following a formula, we can take inspiration from it and make time to take a break from digital devices, get some movement in and nurture connections with loved ones.

🍴Endometriosis nutrition: New research suggests a low-FODMAP regimen – where highly-fermentable foods like apples, yogurt and wheat are swapped out – could ease pain and bloating for people with endometriosis.

  • The bigger story: The regimen, often used for people experiencing irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), may reduce inflammation and discomfort linked to endometriosis – a condition that affects 1 in 10 women. While researchers say more clinical trials are needed, it could offer a non-hormonal way to manage symptoms, especially for those still waiting years for a diagnosis or proper treatment.

🎖️VE Day: The UK has marked the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII in Europe with a four-day celebration.

🎬 Film tariffs: Trump has announced plans to impose a 100% tariff on all foreign-made films, citing national security concerns and aiming to revive the US film industry.

💻 Protecting passwords: UK retailers have been urged to tighten IT help desk security after hackers impersonated staff to break into companies like Marks & Spencer, Co-op and Harrods.

🌠 Shooting stars: Debris from Halley’s Comet is lighting up the sky with the Eta Aquariid meteor shower peaking this week.

📱 Social security: The EU has imposed a €530m fine on TikTok for transferring European user data to China, breaching privacy regulations.

🎩 Dandy dress code: The Met Gala’s theme paid tribute to dandyism – a historical style movement known for flamboyance, elegance and rebellion.
