Happy Friday!

IDK about you, but I thrive in the summertime. Growing up in Southeast Asia, I’ve always felt more comfortable with hot & sticky air, so I’m in my element this season 🧘‍♀️ I’ve been loving starting my day with a bowl of fresh nectarines from my local greengrocer and experimenting with new ways to use tomatoes for dinner. As soon as my workday finishes you can catch me at my local park, Birkenstocks on, and the M&S deli 3 for £8 deal in hand…

But I always get a sinking feeling when August rolls around, with the bulk of summer behind us and the cold temperatures of autumn ahead. If you’re like me and want to make the most of the daylight, we’ve got a special treat for you in this edition – a guide to what to do before summer ends 🌞 Head to Weekend Treats to read!

August. It's the last month of summer before temperatures start to cool and days begin getting shorter, and I always feel like I need to fill my schedule to make the most of the sunshine. If, like me, you’ve felt this summer has been fleeting (no thanks to a rather cold June and July 😒), here are some ways to make the most of the rest of the season.

Go on a picnic
Grab a bag, fill it with your favourite nibbles and head to your nearest green space. Some of my fave transportable recipes include this smoky eggplant dip and these gooey tahini and halva brownies

Catch a flick outdoors
There’s something so magical about watching a film outside. I have a cherished childhood memory of watching Cars outdoors and I’ve been trying to catch that high ever since by going to as many al fresco screenings as I can. Luckily, there’s plenty of gorgeous venues across the country that screen films during the summer.

Admire the stars
If you live in a big city, it’s easy to forget there are stars – I know I have! Seize the warm summer nights to lay in a grassy field and try to make out constellations. This very helpful map lists some great stargazing locations across the UK.

🗞 Read: This thought-provoking X thread from writer Vanessa Kisuule on our tendency to label ourselves with certain traits, even when those labels limit us. When I came across it earlier this week, it stopped me in my tracks. ~ Esther

🎧 Listen to: Nancy & Lee, a classic album that sounds exactly like a sunset. As soon as it hits 20c and over, it’s my go-to summertime soundtrack that takes me away from the reality of being in a jam-packed, unairconditioned bus. ~ Hanna

📺 Watch: Jobfished (BBC iPlayer), The Instigators (Apple TV+), Self Reliance (Paramount+) and A Place Called Silence (out in cinemas now).

🛍️ Shop: I’ve always wanted to invest in silk sleepwear – and this sale makes it way more affordable 👀

Universal Pictures announced last week that a biopic of which pop icon is in the works?

A) Cher
B) Britney Spears
C) Charli xcx
