I’m back from a wonderful holiday that was filled with lots of beach time, incredible food and plenty of naps. My daily post-lunch snooze routine got me thinking about the power of napping - and how I could replicate my new habit when back in the “real world”.

That’s why, in this week’s edition, I’m super excited to be bringing you a guide to mastering the art of napping, packed full of tips to help you get the most out of your afternoon doze.

🌳 Eight South American countries agreed to form an alliance to protect the Amazon at a regional climate summit on Tuesday - but fell short of a common goal to end deforestation.

🇺🇸 A search warrant was issued for Donald Trump’s Twitter account in January, unsealed records revealed. The social media platform eventually complied but missed a court-ordered deadline, resulting in a $350,000 fine.

🇬🇧 The first asylum seekers were moved into the controversial Bibby Stockholm barge in Portland Port, Dorset, amid concerns over the welfare of those onboard and the impact on local services.

CULTURE

🇮🇹 Italy’s government introduced a pilot programme offering free taxi rides to partygoers in a bid to cut down on drink-driving incidents - but critics say the scheme unfairly rewards those who overdo it.

📚 YouTube trumped TikTok as the most popular online platform for young people to discover new reads, despite the Gen Z social media phenomenon of #BookTok.

🎭 This year’s Edinburgh Fringe is well underway - but artists have expressed concerns over the skyrocketing costs of performing at the world-famous event.

💻 Zoom - the company which “powered the remote work revolution” - ordered employees back into the office for two days a week, saying it believed a “structured hybrid approach” was most effective for the firm.

🔬 A new UK vaccine research centre has opened at Porton Down in Wiltshire, where scientists will work on developing vaccines for future potential pandemic pathogens.

🌊 Three underwater volcanoes - and the wreck of a sunken ship - have been discovered off Sicily’s south-west coast, following a weeks-long deep-sea expedition.

UPLIFTING STUFF

💊 The first pill for postpartum depression (PPD) was approved in the US. Until now, treatment for PPD has only been available as an intravenous injection - and the development has been hailed as a “game changer” by some.

🇮🇳 India reportedly succeeded in reducing its greenhouse emissions rate by 33% over 14 years. The faster-than-expected rate means that the country is well on its way to meeting a key UN commitment.

💫 The Perseid meteor shower - “one of the year’s most anticipated celestial displays” - will be at peak visibility this weekend. Here’s how to watch it.
