Happy Friday!

It’s officially the beginning of term 📚 There’s something about this time of year that feels like the promise of a clean slate. Even though school days are behind us, I love how September always seems to carry that sharpened-pencil energy: refreshed, raring to go and ready to find our rhythm again after the hazy drift of summer. I like to think of it as a season for fresh starts – new routines, tidy desks and maybe even a cheeky excuse to treat yourself to a new diary.

But for one lucky reader, the holidays aren’t quite behind her just yet… After winning our latest giveaway with Expat Explore, Liv from Edinburgh – check your emails! – has an incredible 7-day tour of Italy still to come. Enjoy the dolce vita on our behalf, Liv 💗

But for the rest of us, let’s get into this week’s round-up of headlines and culture picks ❣️

🗞 Read: Have you heard of the “Great Lock In”? I will admit that I hadn’t until I read this brilliant piece in Vogue unpacking the new trend. Basically, it’s back-to-school blended with New Year’s intentions for Gen Z and Millennials. The author explores the idea that, whilst it's always good to have goals, is there a chance we’re becoming a little bit too rigid and leaving no room for fun?

🎧 Listen: I’ve really got into listening to Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour again. It’s such a fab way of keeping your finger on the pulse and it’s always a win when you get an hour dedicated to amplifying women’s voices 💫

📺 Watch: Ok, I’m honestly still not 100% sure whether I love or hate it but, either way, The Girlfriend honestly has me so hooked. Only Murders in the Building is back, which is just what the doctor ordered. Oh, and the day is finally here! The press tour has already served us some true delights and now the third and final Downton Abbey film is out in cinemas today – I will be racing you to the box office to secure my ticket.

🧑‍🍳 Cook: We are about to dive nose first into soup season and this chicken, mushroom and tortellini option is exactly the type of cosy recipe to reach for.
