Hello,
Lily here, thrilled to be bringing you a very special edition 💞 I’ve got a couple of exciting things to run through with you. Firstly, if you’ve been with us for a while, you’ll remember we ran a poll asking if you’d move your pension if it wasn’t being invested sustainably. 45% of you said yes and an additional 50% said yes (but only if it’s easy)! So this week, we’ve partnered with some experts to help break down what sustainable pensions are all about as well as simple ways to switch 🤗
Next up, it's your last opportunity to boost your chances of winning a 5-night stay for two (plus return flights) to Chalet Saudade in Portugal. So, alongside your usual round-up of the week’s biggest headlines, read on for some empowering financial content and how you can boost your odds of winning a lovely Portuguese holiday ☀️
Love,
Lily

How sustainable is your pension?
First thing’s first – what’s a sustainable pension?
It’s a type of pension plan that invests in companies that meet social, environmental and governance standards. These are not the norm. UK pension schemes invest £88bn in fossil fuel companies (or about £3k for each pension holder), according to Make My Money Matter. For many of us, our pensions are the biggest investment we make in our lifetimes. It’s important to direct it to companies that align with your values, just as you might do with the products you buy.
Sounds great! How do I start?
Firstly, find out where your pension is currently being invested. This information is generally available on your pension provider’s website or your annual statement. If you don’t know where to start or have lost track of yours, check out this helpful guide. Look for exclusion areas that avoid fossil fuels or focus areas like renewable energy. If you find you’re not happy with your pension’s ethos, it’s time to start researching your options. After some of our own research, we’ve partnered with PensionBee, a leading online pension provider that helps you combine your old workplace pensions into one easy-to-manage plan. They offer a curated range of products, allowing you to invest in line with your values in pension plans such as their Climate Plan.
What’s so special about PensionBee?
PensionBee is incredibly transparent about where your money is going. Not only does their Climate Plan exclude fossil fuel-producing companies and those heavily reliant on them, it only invests in companies which are committed to reducing their carbon footprint. They also don’t invest in companies that are misaligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). According to PensionBee’s Chief Engagement Officer, Clare Reilly, the plan "prioritises impactful climate action”, so you can feel good about your future and the planet’s future too.
When investing, your capital is at risk.
