The Maple River in Michigan has become the first in the US to return to a natural free-flowing state, following a 25-year restoration project. All manmade obstructions such as roads and dams were removed and replaced with timber bridges, in a bid to improve the river ecosystem and offer hope for future conservation initiatives in the area.
