“Land titles have proven to be the most effective way to protect Indigenous peoples’ land from deforestation,” write Miguel Guimaraes Vasquez and Wendy Pineda in Mongabay – so it’s a pretty big deal that a record number of titles were granted in the Peruvian Amazon over the past year. It marks a “significant step” towards addressing climate change, as well as “reclaiming Indigenous peoples’ sovereignty and rights”.
