Did you know that more than half of UK women have never held an investment product? We think it’s time to change that. With Trading 212, investing is simple, accessible and built for everyone – no finance degree or jargon required. Capital is at risk. Sponsored content.

Hello hello,
Thanksgiving’s around the corner, and as an American abroad, a little Friendsgiving this Sunday feels extra special. I love any excuse to spend quality time with my favourite people… but I’m already deep into a to-do list and putting together a shortlist of fun activities for the night. (Our dinner party game recommendations further down are basically my personal Super Bowl.)
And because hosting season is officially here, we’ve rounded up some festive tips and tricks to help make your own gatherings feel a little smoother – plus the first edition of this year’s gift guide for the friends who love to host just as much as I do.
Scroll on for a bit of that, plus our usual round-up of headlines and culture picks for the week ✨

Our festive hosting tips (& a few tricks)
There’s something pretty magical about hosting in the festive period – the cosy lighting, the slightly chaotic kitchen energy, the excuse to make just one more batch of something delicious. Whether you’re planning a festive dinner, casual drinks or a bring-a-dish gathering, here are a few tips to keep things joyful (and low-stress).
🎄 Set the vibe before anything else
Decide what kind of evening you want: warm and candlelit, buzzy and upbeat or relaxed and come-as-you-are. Once the mood is set, the rest flows so much more easily. Think: lamps over bright overhead lighting, a simple playlist, a few sprigs of greenery or a cosy throw over a chair.
🎄Choose one “wow” moment and keep the rest simple
Maybe it’s a gorgeous pear and almond tart, a winter-spiced cocktail you batch make in advance or a table with a few pretty candles and linen napkins. Let that be your moment. Then keep the rest easy: a one-pot main, a bean salad, crusty bread and you’re golden.
🎄Give your home a 10-minute sweep, not a full clean
Focus on the spaces guests actually interact with: clear the hallway, toss any clutter into a basket, wipe down the bathroom sink and light a candle that smells like “I totally have my life together”. No deep-cleaning required. Pro tip: have a notebook handy and make a quick list of the chores you really care about before you get down to it… that way you’ll keep track and not get sidetracked by that bundle of laundry by the machine!
🎄Let games do the heavy lifting
Games are the unsung heroes of hosting – they fill any lulls in conversation and instantly bring the energy up. Whether you’re into chaotic party games, low-effort conversational ones or classics with a twist, we’ve rounded up some of our favourites here.
🎄Set up a self-serve drinks station
Free yourself from bartender duty with a simple drinks corner: a bottle of fizz, something non-alcoholic (sparkling elderflower or a jug of iced tea), sliced citrus and a big bowl of crisps or spiced nuts (check for allergies first though!). Bonus points for a pre-mixed Negroni or mulled wine kept warm on the hob.

🍸 DIY cocktail napkins (£)
Everyone knows that a cocktail napkin is truly the height of hosting, but its the kind of thing that your hostess with the mostess friend probably won’t treat herself to. So why not hand stitch some for her? You can order a kit online that’s easy to follow and will leave you with the sweetest cocktail napkins that she will treasure forever.
🫘 Some very fancy beans (££)
Bold Beans are always a good idea. Not only are they the chicest jar of beans on the market, but they are also the tastiest. If there’s one person who will truly appreciate a bundle, it’s your bestie who loves hosting. Whether its queen chickpeas for her to create an experimental salad with, or a jar of baked beans for her to zhuzh up her post-hosting Sunday fry up.
📖 A bougie planner (£££)
This is for that one friend who loves to channel her inner Nigella Lawson (and can anyone blamer her?!). This beautiful hostess planner is the ultimate gift for the friend who is always having the gang around for suppers and takes joy from everything being just so. Top tip: I love to write a little note in the jacket cover with a message to my friend, as well as the date gifted. I promise it won’t go unnoticed!
