Happy Friday!
Hope you’re all looking forward to the weekend ❤️ Mine will be pretty chill, as weekends tend to be this time of year. I’m planning on watching a few horror flicks (it is spooky season after all!) and then some romcoms to de-scare myself. All while the smell of freshly-baked pumpkin pie and other lovely treats fill the air…

I’ve been hearing a lot about ‘signature scents’ recently. It’s making me wonder – do I have one? Do I need one? Is this an essential part of adulting no-one’s told me about?!
For me, perfume has always been a bit of a minefield. The last time I went to buy a new fragrance, it took me a whole year to decide (no exaggeration) and I ended up rebuying the exact same, despite wanting to go for something different.
But recently, I hit the jackpot. MERIT – the minimalist beauty brand I’ve been loving recently – just launched their first ever fragrance, Retrospect. I was lucky enough to give it a try prior to launch, and it’s fair to say I’m obsessed.
The notes
Developed in Paris by one of the industry’s most celebrated perfumers, Retrospect incorporates vintage notes rarely found in fragrances today – but make no mistake, this isn’t your granny’s perfume! There’s no stuffiness or sickly-sweetness (my biggest gripe when it comes to fragrances today). Instead, I found a modern and clean take on subtle notes of vanilla and jasmine, accented with pear and rose.
The bottle
Inspired by modernist jewellery, Retrospect looks and feels like a collectible art item. Spritzing this on before leaving the house has elevated my morning routine, making me feel as good as I smell (which is really, really good).
The wear
Most fragrances tend to have one strong scent that stays the same, but Retrospect evolves with my day. It starts off fresh and dewy in the morning – perfect for prepping your daily newsletters! – evolving into an earthy musk by evening that’s perfect for date nights with my partner. Plus, because Retrospect is an extrait de parfum – the most concentrated form of perfume – it stayed on even after 12 hours.
The verdict
Inspired by tradition yet utterly modern, I can easily see Retrospect becoming my signature scent. Guess that means I’m officially an adult now?!
