I’ve recently returned from my travels (yep, it's been a pretty fab start to 2026!). I actually managed to go to Rio Carnival and a Brazilian pal got me all dressed up which really was such a ‘pinch me’ moment. 

But anyway, back to reality it is 😂 Luckily, we’ve got lots of exciting projects on the way for the rest of the year which are making me very excited to get back to it. In the meantime, here’s our round-up of the week’s headlines, plus a few culture recs.

📖 The International Booker Prize longlist has been announced! We’re in awe of all of them, but a couple of our faves include Small Comfort and The Nights Are Quiet in Tehran.

🪐 A planet parade is building this week, with its peak expected to take place tomorrow when six planets should be visible from Earth. Time to dust off those binoculars you were given for your 13th birthday!

🏏 The full schedule for the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 has been revealed, with hosts England set to open against Sri Lanka.

WORK & INNOVATION

🧬 An inhalable gene therapy that helps shrink lung tumours has just been fast-tracked by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US.

👩‍💻 A productivity test created by a psychologist can reveal each person’s unique work rhythm, offering a helpful framework for approaching daily tasks. 

🔮 Storing data in glass could be the answer to ensuring a much longer lifespan than the current go-to of using hard disks, scientists have discovered.

🏘️ A “dementia village” is being built in the US for the first time, inspired by communities in the Netherlands, where adults with the condition can live in neighbourhoods that offer personal autonomy, as well as care.

📺 Watch: Cancel your plans, the second half of Bridgerton’s fourth season is out (we’re hoping Benedict makes an appointment at Specsavers for this one!). I was a big fan of Scrubs growing up, so I am incredibly excited for the reboot. Also, Amanda Seyfried's new movie has been all over the underground this month, so I think a trip to the cinema is probably on the cards this weekend.

🧑‍🍳 Cook: This could be a real marmite moment but I will hold my hands up and say I’m a big fan of Battenberg cake (I can’t be the only one?!). Anyway, this recipe for beetroot Battenberg is such a fun take on it.
