Seattle is getting 100 new tiny homes this autumn to help tackle homelessness in the city. The King County Regional Homelessness Authority is putting $6 million into the project, giving people a real shot at stability. Developed by the Low Income Housing Institute, the villages will come with security, laundry, storage and on-site support.

👩‍⚕️ AI and women’s health

Women’s health can be downplayed by AI, a new report has found. But instead of ditching the tech, we ask: how can AI help women be heard in the doctor’s office?

What did the study find?
Research from the London School of Economics has shown that AI tools (like Google’s “Gemma”) used by over half of England’s local councils tend to minimise women’s physical and mental health needs compared to men’s. That means decisions about care could be unfairly tilted – not because of your needs, but because of your gender. The amount of gender bias can vary amongst different AI models, so there are growing calls for transparency regarding which are used and how often they’re impacting care provision for women.

What’s the bigger impact?
This isn’t just academic. Across many areas of healthcare, women still face delayed diagnoses and dismissals. In particular, a quarter of women have been misdiagnosed with gynaecological conditions like endometriosis or polycystic ovary syndrome – 74% had to visit five or more doctors over a period up to 10 years before receiving a correct diagnosis, according to Edometriosis UK.

Is there a way AI can help?
When used wisely, AI can be a useful tool to support conversations with health professionals through:

  • Smarter preparation: Use AI note-generators to track what hurts, when and how it affects your day. This can be refined into bullet points so nothing gets lost in translation.

  • Pattern spotting: Apps that track cycles, mood, pain intensity and medication effects can feed into AI analysis that discover patterns you might not have noticed.

  • Research at your fingertips: Filter for reputable information and arm yourself with information – it’s not about self-diagnosis, but helping you to ask more informed questions.

The takeaway.
Bringing structured notes, patterns and credible sources to your doctor can help shift the dynamic if your health concerns have been dismissed or misdiagnosed before. The key is using AI in tandem with your doctor, not as a stand-in. It’s about empowering your voice and advocating for your health, not replacing human expertise.
