The Know Daily - Friday 27 September 2024

Read in 5m 54s ∙ Listening to Fleetwood Mac

Happy Friday - autumn is officially here! 🍂 Even though I’m a summer girlie through and through, I’m diving into the new season headfirst, perfecting my pumpkin pie recipe.

Last year, I challenged myself to do Sober October, a fundraising initiative that encourages drinkers to give up alcohol for the whole month. As a wine-lover, it was tough but super rewarding. Not only was I able to save money, it also impacted my drinking habits for the better and I can happily say I drink a lot less throughout the week now.

So for this edition, I’ve rounded up some helpful tips if you’re interested in joining me this time around. Hope you find them useful!

Love,

Hanna

Dry January’s sister Sober October is around the corner, and staff writer Hanna shares her top tips for cutting down.

Opt for no or low options
It’s never been easier to find booze-free alternatives or low-alcohol options — for instance, Quarter Proof and Beavertown offer lighter versions of your faves. Alternatively, experiment with mocktails – I love this sparkling strawberry lemonade and this riff on a classic Moscow mule.

Engage in activities not centred around drinking
Invest in your hobbies that don’t revolve around alcohol, whether that be climbing or chess. For me, joining a book club has stopped me from defaulting to pub trips for social events.

On staying motivated
Remind yourself why you’re doing it by writing a mantra down on a post-it note and sticking it somewhere you see everyday. Alternatively, download the Try Dry app, which helps you better understand your habits and shows how much you save by not drinking!
