🫶 Global goodwill | 💰 Money Monday | 🌌 Space snapshot
During the London Marathon this weekend, Team Finish Together worked to ensure that all runners crossed the line with “pride, positivity and community”. Founded by two marathon runners, their goal is to ensure every participant feels celebrated, no matter what time they finish. We love to see it 💗
🫶 Global goodwill
Today is international Pay It Forward Day.
What is it?
It’s an annual worldwide celebration of kindness on 28 April, serving as a reminder that even small acts of goodwill can have a big impact and foster a more positive, compassionate world. Pay It Forward Day is recognised by over 80 countries. And as of 2017, the movement has boomed into a “world-wide celebration of love of kindness”, with over 17m acts of service performed in a single year.
How did it start?
Australian author and inspirational speaker Blake Beattie started the movement in 2007. She took inspiration from author Catherine Hyde’s book Pay It Forward, which is about how doing good deeds for others makes the world a better place.
How do you celebrate it?
There’s plenty of acts of kindness to mark the day (and practice throughout the whole year!), here’s a round-up of some of our faves:
Call a friend you haven’t spoken to for a while and check in on them
Buy a coffee for the person behind you in the queue
Write a thank you note to someone who’s made a difference in your life – it can be a teacher or mentor
Give away your favourite book with a note inside saying “Enjoy and pass it on!”
Compliment a stranger – you never know what it might mean to them
Donate to a charitable cause you feel passionate about
Participate in a clean-up initiative at a local park
What’s more, there’s tons of resources for schools and businesses on how to create impactful campaigns for the day.
Here at The Know we’re all about paying it forward, so we’re giving away 3 of our cosy sweatshirts. We’ll announce the winners on Friday 💖
