The Know Daily - Friday 3 October 2025

Read in 5m 04s ∙ Listening to Taylor Swift

Hello hello,

Did anyone else blink and suddenly it was autumn? No complaints here though – I’m fully leaning into cosy jumpers for my WFH ‘fits, upgrading my morning coffee with a dash of cinnamon (instant fancy), and finally tackling the stack of books on my bedside table.

On that note, we’re thrilled to be hosting our very first virtual book club meet-up this Monday and you’re invited! We’ll be chatting about My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout  – if you haven’t read it yet but would love to join us, then no worries as it’s a speedy weekend read. Grab your free ticket here and come meet the team 📖

For now, here’s your weekly round-up of news and culture recs. Dive in, enjoy, and have a fab weekend 💖

Psst… did you know we have a book club now? Our very first virtual meet-up is this Monday! We’ll be chatting about My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout. Already read it (or up for a speedy weekend read)? Grab your free ticket and join us ✨

🗞 Read: If you are a fan of the novelist Zadie Smith, this read is for you. In her essay for The New Yorker, she explores her approach to writing and how her background informs how she tackles a blank page. I love how she gets into the idea of essays being about creating a shared space for thought, rather than self-expression. It’s always a treat to get a glimpse into the mind of a fab writer!

📺 Watch: My ultimate comfort-watch series is back and I couldn’t be more thrilled. All Creatures Great and Small feels like the perfect cup of tea at the end of a long day – plus there’s loads of cute animals in it. Lovers of Peaky Blinders should definitely check out House of Guinness… it’s a wild ride! And if you’re after a friends-to-lovers Saturday night movie, don’t sleep on All of You.

🧑‍🍳 Cook: Autumn screams vegetables in the form of something comforting. This ratatouille tart ticks both boxes – and won’t have you glued to the kitchen all day!

🎧 Listen: A post-work walk accompanied by Lemonade Leaders is my current obsession (at least whilst the evening light lasts!). A weekly dose of inspiration, Riannon Palmer chats with founders and changemakers about how they found success in the midst of adversity. Claire Hill’s episode centred around self-belief is a personal fave!*

Researchers have created a portable loo powered by what?
