🗞️ The headlines this month
Missed an edition or two over the last month? Don’t worry, we’ve rounded up some of the top headlines that've had our Slack channels popping off throughout March.
Our Editor’s picks
🦫 Rewilding Britain: Efforts to restore nature are gaining momentum, from reintroducing beavers to letting woodlands and wetlands regenerate naturally. With UK wildlife in decline, projects backed by charities and government schemes aim to bring back biodiversity while helping tackle climate change and flooding. The movement has strong public support and is part of a wider global shift to rebuild ecosystems. Whether on a national scale or in your own garden, giving nature space to recover can have powerful results.
🎧 The “always on” effect: From playlists at work to podcasts on the go, many of us live with a near-constant stream of sound. While audio can boost mood, focus and productivity, it also means silence is becoming rarer – even uncomfortable for some. Research suggests this constant noise can make concentration harder over time, as our brains work to filter it all out. Making space for quiet moments could be just as important for focus, memory and overall wellbeing.
Our inbox has been overflowing…
👩⚕️ Endometriosis: This month marks Endometriosis Awareness Month. When we asked if any of our readership had experienced the condition, 84% of those who responded said that either they or someone close to them has.
“I have 4 friends in my immediate social group who have it. More research needs to be done into pain reduction and treatments.”
“My partner had PCOS and endometriosis which resulted in surgeries and struggling to conceive. We are now, with the help of IVF, expecting our first child in the summer – something we never thought would be possible.”
“Really great to see endometriosis awareness being raised here and thank you for giving me an opportunity to share my experience. This is something that is very close to my heart because it affects me almost daily.”
🤖 AI on campus: Artificial intelligence is an increasingly popular tool in the world of education. We asked you what your feelings are about the impact AI has in this context. Whilst 48% said they think it's negative, 8% said they think it’s positive and 44% said they think it’s a bit of both.
“I think we have to accept that AI will change the world forever and banning it at universities seems reductive. However, I can see the negative effects if students rely too heavily on it.”
“I completed my nursing degree last year. So many peers used AI to write dissertations, provide slide content for final presentations and to do group work tasks. I think it yields lazy learners who aren’t competent in the workplace.”
“I work in education and think AI will be a wonderful tool for learners to use, to be able to generate information quickly. The days of producing homework based on a Wikipedia page are thankfully gone. AI can help learners disseminate information quicker from a wider variety of sources.”

Got it? Answer at the bottom.
🌍 Sending British troops to Iran has been ruled out, with Prime Minister Keir Starmer saying the UK won’t be “dragged into” the conflict involving the US.
The bigger story: The government says it will focus on defensive measures – including protecting shipping routes and British interests – while avoiding direct involvement on the ground. The stance comes as the US weighs further military steps and tensions continue with Iran. Other countries have signalled a similar intention of limited involvement, with Spain reportedly restricting access to its airspace for US military aircraft.
🍫 A chocolate heist has taken place in Europe after a 12 tonne shipment of a popular snack was stolen.
🌌 One of the oldest known stars in the universe has been captured on camera by astronomers.
✍️ A public consultation on a proposed ban on trail hunting has been launched by the UK government.
💸 The daytripper fee to visit one of Europe’s most popular cities is set to return in April in an effort to curb overtourism.
🌱 A botany course is to be introduced for students at Cambridge University, based off an archive that inspired Charles Darwin.
🎂 Cake Picnic is a viral event that’s sold out dates in London, New York and Dubai – earlier this month it landed in Melbourne where 1,600 cakes were served up!
The change of clocks means that summer is here as far as I’m concerned and I’m getting very excited about barbies with all the trimmings. One of my faves is this grilled peach salad with burrata and ham. It's a goal of mine to keep spreading the word that stone fruits don’t just belong in puddings – their salad game is strong too!
